Open to all genres of dance including, but not limited to:

Ballet, Street (Hip Hop, Krump, Popping & Locking), Ballroom/Latin (includes club dances-Salsa, Merengue, Bachata,Kizomba, Argentine Tango etc), Break Dance, Belly Dance, Contemporary/Lyrical/Acro, Dance Hall, Pole Dance, Vogue/Heels/Wacking, Flamenco, Aerial Silks, Hoop, Lillipop, Trapeeze, Cyr Wheel, Bollywood, Irish Dance, Tap Dance, Mixed Fusions

Video Submission Criteria

- Videos may be recorded on cellphone devices or professional devices.
- Videos should feature majority of the show piece, demonstrating the skills, theme, costuming, music and performers featured in the show. Keep in mind, the selection to the Live Audition is based on what is submitted in video.
- Please include names of choreographers for the show pieces if not choreographed by performers themselves.
- Please include all names of performers present in video for credit
- Duration: up to 3 minutes maximum
- Show dances submitted in video must be the same show presented at the live audition/finale gala upon invitation
- Age of Majority: Individual submitting video must be at least 16 years old and agree to the Video Submission Consent form.
- All performers featured in video submission must be a Canadian Resident
- Parental/Guardian Consent: Individual's submitting video under the age of 16 must submit details of their parents/guardians including email/phone # and the registration will be accepted only upon receipt of Parent/Guardian Video Submission Consent form
- Individuals submitting video must have right to use the footage in their submission. DAT Project does not take any ownership to video submissions provided, nor takes any credit for choreography/acknowledgement if not provided by submitter.
- Individual submitting video acknowledges having consent of all parties shows in video to submit.
- Show Dances can not feature offensive language (music tracks must be censored), religiously offensive themes, nudity or highly sexual content which would be deemed inappropriate for the general public.
- By submitting video, all individuals consent to give DAT Project the use of their information, video & media materials in the purposes related to DAT PROJECT including future performance contracts, marketing & advertising.

Category Rules:

Solo:
- All performers must be 16 year old or older
- No Apparatus used in the show (props are permitted)
- Any performance style/genre

Duet:
- One of the performers is at least 16 years old
- No apparatus used in the show (props are permitted)
- Any performance style/genre

Troupe:
- Majority of the performers must be at least 16 years old & older
- No apparatus used in the show (props are permitted)
- Any performance style/genre

Kids Troupe:
- Majority of the participants must be 15 years old or under and not younger than 7 years old
- Any performance style/genre

Specialty Act
- Any acts using an apparatus such as Aerial silks, Pole, Cyr Wheel, Hoop, Lollipop, Trapeze, Lyra etc are considered Specialty Acts.
- Only 1 lollipop, Pole & Silks apparatus available at both Live Audition & Finale Gala- any Specialty Act shows must be tweaked/able to be performed on only 1 apparatus (in case of Group or Duet submissions)
- The youngest performer must be at least 16 years old.
- Any performance style/genre
- No pyrotechnics allowed for specialty acts due to theater restrictions

Adjudicating Criteria

(Applies to Video Submissions, Live Audition & Finale Gala Selections):

Overall Creativity: Choreography concept, use of props, movement, show idea/theme

Entertainment Value: Impact on audience, use of performance space, costuming, musical choice & fit, uniqueness

Versatility: Fusion of various dance genres & elements of performing arts is permitted & encouraged. Vast use of dance patterns , lack of repetition showing broad spectrum of ability.

Difficulty & Technique: Difficulty of elements showcased, dance technique, flexibility & speed as appropriate to genre & performance.

Performance: Energy & expression of the performer, connection with the audience, music & space.

Video Submission Consent:

- I am over the age of 16 years old.
- I have consent from all parties shown in the video to submit this video on their behalf and they are aware of the submission
- I have the right to use the video material/footage I have submitted
- I have the consent of the parents/guardians of the performers featured in the video to submit and showcase their video if they are under 16 years old.
- I understand there may be explicit, religious or offensive themes demonstrated in other show submissions, which are out of my control and I do not hold DAT Project or the production team responsible.
- I understand and agree that DAT Project may remove my registration/video submission if deemed inappropriate due to coarse language, offensive theme, or explicit sexual nature.
- I give full permission to DAT PROJECT A to use the video materials, my name & information for the purposes of marketing, advertising and contracts as it relates to/involvement with the DAT PROJECT competition.

Live Audition Rules:

- I am over the age of 16 years old.
- Live Audition is by INVITATION ONLY
- Top 100 entrants (20 from each of the 5 Categories) will be invited via email directly from DAT Project A Team to attend.
- Final Date, Time & Location will be announced by August 30, 2019
- You must bring all props , costumes & accessories used for your show dance audition
- DAT Project A will provide set up for 1 set of: Aerial Silks (12 feet), Free Standing X Pole (10 feet), Lollipop (6 feet), Ceiling hung Lyra hoop.
- An 8ft by 8ft marley floor will be set up for Tap/Irish/Flamenco dancers
- The floor in the Live Audition hall is hardwood dance floor
- Music /Instructions for start/finish must be sent at least 3 days prior to Live Audition date- we will not accept any music brought on site.
- You must receive your registration badge on site at registration desk prior to entering Audition studio
- You will have the option to order a video recording at an additional charge at the live Audition, prior to your audition- please arrive 30 minutes earlier to do so.
- Please arrive 30 minutes ahead of your scheduled audition slot to warm up.
- If you miss your allocated slot/audition, no additional time will be allocated.
- No one except the Performer, Adjudicators, Production Team & Video/Photography team are permitted in the Live Audition studio during live audition.
- Please leave the studio immediately after your audition, you will be notified of the Adjudicator selection via e-mail and social media channels.
- Social media posts are encouraged, please tag @Datproject.ca in all posts #liveauditiondatproject
- Please refrain from communicating with Adjudicators during, before or after the live Audition.

Finale Gala Rules:

- Performance/Competing in the Finale Gala is BY INVITATION ONLY
- Top 15 entrants (3 from each of the 5 Categories) will be invited via email directly from DAT Project A Team to attend.
- Finale Gala will take place at the Betty Oliphant Theater from 6-11pm.
- All performers must arrive on site at 5 pm.
- You must bring all props , costumes & accessories used for your show performance- DAT Project will provide set up for 1 set of: Aerial Silks (45-50 feet), Free Standing X Pole (10 feet), Free standing X-pole Lollipop (7 feet), Ceiling hung Lyra hoop.
- Performance floor for the Finale Gala will be a Marley black sprung dance floor.
- Music /Instructions for start/finish must be received by March 11, 2020- no music will be accepted on site. Further instructions for music submissions will be sent to Finalists via email.
- You must present your invitation to the Finale Gala upon arrival.
- You will have the option to order a video recording of your Performance at the Finale Gala at an additional charge. Pre-Orders must be made by March 14, 2020.
- All performers will be directed to the warm-up studio/change rooms and shall remain there until they are called to side stage by the stage manager. There will be a monitor in the studio for you to have an eye on the competition.
- No one except the Performer, Production Team/Stage Manager shall be allowed in the Warm up Studio.
- Please return back to the warm up studio post your performance- the Awards Ceremony will be at the end of the gala.
- For all prizes received, please ensure you pick up your cheques/prizes prior to leaving the theater.
- Social media posts are permitted in lobby, but not in theater please tag @Datproject.ca in all posts #liveauditiondatproject.
- Please refrain from communicating with Adjudicators during or before the Gala. You will have the opportunity to speak with the Adjudicators/Producers post the Gala at the reception in the lobby.

Live Audition Waiver and Media Release Form:

Your safety and security is of utmost importance to us and we are taking measures to ensure the experience is a professional and pleasant one. As a standard procedure however we do request all performers/representatives to complete the below Waiver and Media Consent agreement:

You, as the participant in the DAT Project Live Audition, parent/guardian, of the performer(s) and/or the representative of the performance group, acknowledge (on behalf of yourself and/or the participants that you represent as parents/guardian/studio owner/choreographer), that participation in the Live Audition may potentially expose you/the participant to a certain possibility of personal injury. You, being fully aware that participation in the live audition may expose you to potential risk of personal injury, hereby release DAT Project and its officers, directors, producers, employees, agents, sponsors & consultants of any and all liability from property damage, personal injury or other claims arising from or in connection with your/your dependants/performance team’s participation in the live audition including claims that are known or unknown, future or contingent.

You as the participant and/or parent/guardian/representative of the participant(s), consent to give DAT Project the use of your /their information, video & media materials submitted or filmed/photographed during the LIVE Audition for the purposes relating to DAT PROJECT including future performance contracts, marketing and advertising.
